Rockfordparkdistrict.org
What it is: The Rockford Park District, the second largest municipal park system in Illinois, has its hands in a variety of activities all year long. Don’t imagine that a “park” can’t be fun in the cold weather. From winter sports to the annual snow sculpting extravaganza, the district keeps the action going 12 months out of the year.
“It’s the first place that I check to find out about upcoming events, to get information on tennis lessons and to learn what classes are available for kids and adults,” said Michelle Brown, a part-time legal secretary at Reno & Zahm LLP. “It’s easy to navigate and has convenient links to appropriate sites. As a primarily stay-at-home mom, I especially like the free stuff section, which tells readers about things to do in town that are free of charge.”
Why you should bookmark it: Rockfordparkdistrict.org is the place to learn about recreational activities that await the individual or family. Find out about free programs and services, how to join a wiffle ball team or even details on next year’s snow sculpting competition.
